IITs, IIMs, and NITs Have 506 Percent Of college Posts Vacant, Says A Parliamentary Report.

 

India's pinnacle better education centers, comprising IITs and critical universities, are short of faculty contributors by using a whopping 56.18 percent of professor seats, a parliamentary committee has uncovered.


In its latest file, the committee stressed the want to urgently boost up recruitment to make certain instructional standards have not been compromised.


The parliamentary standing committee on education, ladies, children, kids, and sports tabled its document, 2025-26 demands for the presence of the department of better education, in parliament last week.


It underlined that each recruitment must be obvious, benefit-based, and consistent with the spirit of equal opportunity.


The file, as of january 31, 2025, indicated that 28.56 percent of the total sanctioned teaching posts (18,940) in IITs, NITs, IIMs, IISERs, and vital universities are vacant. Those include 17.97 percent of assistant professor posts, 38.28 percent of associate professor posts, and 56.18 percent of professor-stage posts.


One of the key problems delivered to Mild was the high number of vacant reserved faculty posts in imperative universities. Of the approved posts, 1,521 out of 3,652 for other backward training (OBCs), 788 out of 2,315 for scheduled castes (SCs), and 472 out of 1,154 for scheduled tribes (STs) are vacant.


The panel additionally mentioned such gaps in non-teaching workforce posts, with 1,983 OBC, 1,011 SC, and 1,491 st posts vacant.


The committee faulted the increasing trend of contractual or temporary appointments to cover these posts, warning that this will jeopardize constitutional safeguards for marginalized groups. It called on the government to undertake everlasting answers in place of brief employment.


As school shortages impacted research and training of high quality, the panel emphasized the want for urgent motion to offer a strong and properly educated coaching team of workers for India's establishments of higher education.
