Agricultural university made natural sindoor, got grant of 10 lakhs!
Bihar Agricultural university (BAU) located at Sabour, bhagalpur has made an important innovation in the production of natural sindoor (Siya Sindoor) from Bixa Oriana (Annato). Recognizing this achievement, 'Bihar Startup' has given a grant of Rs 10 lakh to reena Singh of Katihar for the commercialization of this innovation.
Synthetic sindoor harmful for health
This initiative is being run under the scientific guidance of director Research Dr. AK Singh and Dr. V. Shajida Bano and under the leadership of Vice Chancellor of BAU, Sabour, Dr. D R Singh. It was told that this research focuses on Bixa Oriana, which is famous for its natural bixin pigment. It provides an eco-friendly, non-toxic alternative, which is free from heavy metals like lead and mercury. These chemicals found in synthetic sindoor are harmful to health. Advanced extraction, stabilization and formulation techniques have been used in this project to enhance the color stability, shelf-life and safety of the product. Appreciating this achievement, Dr. DR Singh said, "This research reflects scientific excellence of BAU Sabour and its commitment to encourage agri-entrepreneurship."
He said that by using the natural dyeing potential of Bixa oriana, we are solving health concerns as well as promoting rural bio-economic development. This initiative will further inspire biotechnological innovations.
Research director Dr. AK Singh emphasized the scientific approach and said, "Plant-based bio-dyes have vast potential, and this initiative is an excellent example of their commercial applications. Our research team has maximized the purity and stability of natural sindoor by adopting advanced extraction and stabilization techniques. The possibilities of phytochemical based commercial applications will increase further in the future."
