The South indian International movie Awards (SIIMA) took place over the weekend, with the tamil and malayalam film industries celebrated on Sunday. This year’s awards highlighted outstanding performances and contributions across South indian cinema.
Tribute to Vijayakanth
A touching moment at the event was the tribute to the late actor Vijayakanth. Known for his impactful roles in tamil cinema and his significant contributions to politics and philanthropy, Vijayakanth was honored with a special award. His wife, Premalatha Vijayakanth, received the accolade on his behalf.
Vijayakanth’s prolific career spanned over four decades, with notable performances in films such as Vaidehi Kathirunthal (1984), Amman Kovil Kizhakale (1986), and Poonthotta Kaavalkaaran (1988). He was recognized with two Filmfare Awards South and three tamil Nadu State Film Awards, including Best Actor for Senthoora Poove (1988) and a Special prize for Thayagam (1996).

Chiyaan vikram was honored with the Best Actor (Critics Choice) award for his performance in the same film.
Rajinikanth's film Jailer received the Best Film award.
Tovino Thomas clinched the Best Actor award in malayalam for his role in 2018.
Anaswara Rajan was awarded Best Actress for her performance in Neru.
Nani’s Unique Appearance
Telugu actor nani made headlines for his unique appearance at the SIIMA awards. Attending in an all-black outfit and walking barefoot, Nani’s gesture was a nod to the rituals of the sabarimala temple in Kerala. His distinctive attire caught attention, and he was later honored with the Best Actor Award for his role in Dasara.
