The number of obese people in the country is increasing exponentially with the coming changes in the lifestyles of people along with the easily available junk food. The latest National Family health Survey-5 report reveals these details. That said, most people in cities, especially in towns, are getting fat.

The National Family health survey bombshell that women are becoming obese rather than men. people do not change even though doctors warn that life expectancy will decrease if they gain too much weight. Experts say that if a person weighs 10 kg more than his normal weight, his life expectancy will decline to three years.

There is widespread concern that our country is one of the top five countries in the world in terms of obesity. According to a previous survey, it is estimated that there are 1.35 crore obese (overweight) people in the country. Medical experts say that the number is currently growing exponentially. The latest National Family health survey says the same thing.



The National Department of Family health and Welfare ... surveyed 15-49 year old women and 15-54 year old men across the country. The number of overweight people is 33 per cent in urban areas and 20 per cent in rural areas.

In states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, goa and Kerala, almost one-third are overweight compared to the past. In addition, the survey found that 3.4 percent of children under the age of five were overweight.



Weight in humans is estimated based on body mass index (BMI). Accordingly, a BMI of 25% or more is considered obese. According to the latest survey, the average BMI rate for men and women is 22.4 percent. 5% of women between the ages of 15-49 and 37% of those aged 40-49 are obese. Concerns have been raised that 7 per cent of men between the ages of 15-19 are obese and 32 per cent among 40-49 year olds.
