The karnataka health department is on high alert after the deadly Zika virus was detected in mosquitoes in Chikkaballapur district, located close to Bengaluru urban district. Zika virus was found in mosquitoes in Talakayalabetta village of Sidlaghatta taluk. health officials swung into action immediately after the development and initiated preventive measures to stop the spread of the virus.
Authorities have collected blood samples of 30 pregnant women and seven persons with fever symptoms and sent them to Bengaluru for testing. Samples were collected from villages located within a five km radius of Talakayla Betta village. The officials personally visited Venkatapura, Dibburahalli, Bachchanahalli, Vaddahalli, and others and took stock of the situation. Chikkaballapura district health Officer Mahesh Kumar confirmed the detection of the Zika virus in Chikkaballapura district. health officials are keeping a close watch on about 5,000 people in the area.
