The HMPV virus has caused great fear among the general public. Especially, children and adults are at high risk for this. While the infection was first detected in places including Bengaluru and Gujarat, the infection has also been detected in Chennai. The tamil Nadu government has also issued instructions on preventive measures. In this situation, Dr. Pinaki R Debnath, Head of Pediatric Surgery, RML Hospital, Delhi, shared important information to address all the concerns of parents regarding the impact of the HMPV virus on children. Dr. Pinaki said, 'First of all, people should know that this is not a sudden disaster, HMPV i.e. human metapneumovirus is not a new virus, but an old virus. It was there before. So you don't have to worry,' he said

This is what the central government, the central health ministry, and all state governments are saying. The government and doctors are closely monitoring this virus. From the time the coronavirus was detected 5 years ago to the time it spread around the world, there is a fear that the same events will happen again. Currently, there is a situation where sanitizers, disinfectants, and masks are kept in homes. The HMPV virus affects children the most, so parents are panicking. In this case, Dr. Pinaki answered the doubts raised by him.
Dr. Pinaki- In winter, there is a favorable environment for its spread. It is an RNA virus that affects the respiratory tract. This virus infection spreads more when the body's immunity is low. This virus infection especially affects children under the age of five and senior citizens above the age of 60-65. Because the body's immunity is low at this age. Difficulty breathing, i.e. problems in the respiratory system, and cough are its symptoms.
How long does HMPV virus infection last?

Dr. Pinaki - Symptoms like nasal congestion, runny nose, red eyes, and sore throat may last for some time. If the condition is severe, pneumonia-like symptoms may occur, which may include difficulty breathing. If there is no problem with breathing, there are normal symptoms like cold and cough. The effect lasts for 2-7 days, during which it heals on its own.

Doctor Pinaki - If you go to a crowded place, take precautions like wearing a mask. If you see an infected person there or if he/she shows cold symptoms, stay away from him/her. Do not shake hands with him/her. Wash your hands frequently if you cough or sneeze. This will help prevent the spread of infection. If you have a cold or fever, you should consult a doctor.
