What is fatty liver?
If more than 5% fat is deposited in a person's liver, then it is called fatty liver. When this fat exceeds 10%, it takes the form of a disease and over time it can cause liver inflammation and wounds.
What are the main causes of fatty liver?
The biggest reason for this is unbalanced and wrong diet. According to Dr. Shiv Kumar Sarin Indian liver specialist, when we consume more calories, the body is unable to use it and the extra calories start accumulating in the liver as fat. This fat affects the functioning of the liver, which can lead to problems like insulin resistance, obesity and diabetes.
1. High calorie intake: When our calorie consumption is more than our energy needs, the body stores these extra calories in the liver as fat. This is the main cause of fatty liver.
2. Unhealthy eating habits: Fast food, junk food, fried foods, processed foods, and sugary things promote fatty liver. These things contain more fat and sugar, which is harmful for the liver.
3. Obesity and overweight: people with a BMI (body mass index) above 25 are at a higher risk of fatty liver. Being overweight leads to accumulation of fat in the body, which affects the functioning of the liver.
4. Alcohol consumption: Excessive consumption of alcohol causes inflammation and irritation in the liver, which can cause fatty liver.
