Gujarmal Modi Birthday - history behind!!!

It is about 92 years old when an Englishman called Dirty indian was banished from patiala for refusing liquor (a glass of wine), it all happened with Gujarmal Modi. Who knew that all these incidents would prove to be a boon for him? Gujarmal Modi helped lay the foundation of Modi Nagar, one of the oldest industrial cities in the country, along with the companies of the Modi Group in the year 1933. The special thing is that Gujarmal Modi is the grandfather of former IPL chairman and businessman Lalit Modi. Today Gujarmal Modi's Birthday he has turned 120 years old.

 

This is the beginning of becoming a big business

Gujarmal Modi was born on 9 august 1902 in Mahendragarh, present-day haryana in the family of a small businessman. His father was the owner of a food grain mill in Patiala. Gujarmal joined his father's business when he was barely 20, and at a time when the concept of insurance was yet to take hold, Gujarmal Modi reportedly convinced his father to open a flour mill. According to Marwar India, the factory was destroyed in the fire after that, but insurance saved the family from this financial loss.

Rise of Modi Group

From 1939-1963, he started the production of soap and tin containers for packing vegetables, oil-crushing plants, paint and varnish factory, glycerin extraction plant, cotton textile mill, lantern Established factory, steel mill, silk and yarn mill among many others. The city of Begumabad was renamed as Modinagar in 1945, which gained an important place on the industrial map of India.

Modi was awarded the title of Rai Bahadur in 1942

In recognition of his services, the british government awarded Modi the title of Rai Bahadur in 1942, which was also held by his father. Later, after the war ended, the british government organized a grand procession in his honour in Meerut, in a rare public display of appreciation. The companies he founded include Modi sugar Mills, Modi Vanaspati Manufacturing Company, Modi industries Limited, Modi Luft, Modi Rubber etc.
