You must have seen this contingent leading this cavalry force during the arrival of the President at Rajpath on the occasion of Republic Day. Leads the President on special occasions

When the President goes to Rajpath on the occasion of Republic Day, this regiment leads him. Apart from this, when the President goes for the joint session of the Parliament, this regiment is with him. The regiment was raised on august 1, 1953 by amalgamating 6 state forces cavalry units. Not only the soldiers involved in this regiment, horses are also included after special training.

How are the soldiers selected?

In the 61st Cavalry Regiment, mainly Rajput, Kayamkhani and maratha soldiers are sent to the 61st Cavalry Regiment after their basic military training. After this, in the next 18 months, they are made expert riders by giving them rigorous training. Rajput, Kayamkhani and maratha soldiers are considered expert in horse riding. Training begins with the acquaintance of the soldiers with the horses. In the initial two months, these jawans have to take care of the horses and massage them.

Has won many honors

The main reception of the national parade to be held on Republic Day is also done by the 61st Cavalry Regiment, which has so far won 39 war honours. The insignia of the 61st Cavalry Regiment consists of a double-headed eagle and a scroll with the words 'Sixty First Cavalry' below. The shoulder title has "61C" inscribed in brass. The motto of this regiment is Ashva shakti Yashobal. The regiment has a strong polo tradition, producing some of the best polo players in the country.
