People of which age group drown the most?

In low-lying locations and villages in particular, the risk of drowning rises during the rainy season. It is challenging to handle drowning situations when there is a delay in the availability of medical assistance following an accident.

The report has shown that the maximum number of people who drown are of 30-40 years of age, but with increasing age this number gradually decreases. This means that small children do not drown as much as older people. This shows that we have to take special care of children and young people. Also, drowning incidents have to be recorded properly, because it is possible that many incidents get hidden.

What does WHO say?

The World health Organization (WHO) acknowledges that drowning is a significant issue as well. Every year many people die or become disabled due to this. In 2014, WHO released a report on drowning for the first time, since then it started getting attention.

In 2023, WHO passed a resolution that efforts will be made to eliminate the problem of drowning worldwide. WHO says that 'a few seconds can save your life.' This means that drowning can happen in a moment but if we take a little care, like wearing a life jacket, keeping an eye on children near water, checking the weather before boating or staying away from dangers, then we can avoid a big problem.
