What was the impact of  partition of 1947 on the country?

India was divided into india and Pakistan. This partition was done on communal basis, which led to large scale violence and Muslim displacement. At the time of partition, properties, resources, and industries were divided between india and Pakistan. This caused a severe setback to the indian economy. Important trade centers such as Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi went to Pakistan.

At the same time, due to the partition, trade routes were disrupted and many industries had to be closed. Heavy losses were especially suffered in areas like Punjab and Bengal, which were most affected by the partition. During the partition, the reserve bank of india had to issue new currency to Pakistan, which led to a currency crisis.
