A gandhi, a Martin, a Lincoln – all were shot...
Incredible things are done in india only through commitment. mahatma gandhi is a great example of this. If you look at this man, he was not a genius or anything special, he was an ordinary man with extraordinary commitment. He was so committed that he became a legend. I remember what he wrote about his first case in a court in india – he stood up to fight his case and his heart sank.
Obviously he was not a great lawyer but he became an invaluable champion of humanity. The man inspired millions. Not just in india, anywhere in the world you mention Gandhi’s name and there is a sense of respect for him. All this happened at a time when there were so many leaders in india who were real giants. They were more talented, better orators and better educated. Yet, this man stood above them all, just because of his relentless commitment.
Life is about rising after falling
No matter what happens, life or death, commitment should not change. With true commitment, you express yourself fully in every possible way. When there is a lack of commitment, somewhere you lose your purpose. When the purpose of what we are here for is lost, there is no question of achieving our goals. Commitment is simply something that we have to decide within ourselves.
Whatever we have undertaken in our lives, if we are truly committed to it, the results are great, and if the results don't come, for a committed person there is no such thing as failure. If you fall 100 times a day, just get up and walk again, that's it. Commitment does not mean aggression. This is where mahatma Gandhi's example is very apt. He was committed to India's freedom struggle, but at the same time he was not against the british people. gandhi, Martin, Lincoln - all were shot. Are we making a statement that we don't need great people in this world, or is it a way of saying that we don't deserve you? But certainly, his life was not in vain.
