Why Mob lynching incidents increased?
According to the CSSS report, there were 13 incidents of mob lynching in india in 2024. In these 13 incidents, 11 people lost their lives, including one Hindu, one Christian and 9 Muslims. However, this number is less as compared to 21 incidents of mob lynching in 2023. The decrease in mob lynching incidents can be attributed to the supreme court guidelines which call for strict action by the state in cases of mob lynching. The constant reprimand by the judiciary forced the state to take action in mob lynching incidents. However, incidents of mob lynching in the name of cow protection are still continuing.
Seven out of 13, i.e. more than 50 percent of the cases were related to allegations of cow slaughter. Like communal riots, maharashtra has the highest number of mob lynching incidents. Uttar Pradesh has also witnessed three incidents of mob lynching. While two incidents each took place in Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, haryana and one incident was registered in Karnataka.
Do political leaders and social media also have any role in communal violence?
On this, Samajwadi party spokesperson Azam Khan said, this is absolutely correct. No one has control over social media. The government needs to make a policy on this. Strict action should be taken against making statements against any religion on social media. Because this spoils the atmosphere somewhere.
At the same time, bjp leader Atif Rashid believes that some political parties also try to incite riots. During the delhi riots in 2020, some political parties were saying that this issue should be raised in front of the international media. At that time, perhaps US President donald trump had come to India. Open provocation was being done.
