Nuchinunde or nuchchinunde is a popular breakfast or snacks recipe from Karnataka. Nuchinunde is prepared by steaming the broken pieces of dhal and spices. Nuchinunde or spicy broken dhal dumplings are very tasty and guilt free snacks recipe. Nuchinunde is a traditional recipe from Bangalore Mysore region of Karnataka.

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)
    1/2 cup toor dhal
    1/4 cup gram dhal or channa dhal
    1 onion finely chopped (optional - I didn't use)
    1 to 3 green chili finely chopped
    1/2 " length ginger finely chopped
    5 to 6 curry leaves finely chopped
    1 tbsp finely chopped coriander leaves
    1/4 cup grated coconut
    A generous pinch of Asafoetida
    1/4 cup dill leaves / sabsige soppu finely chopped (optional)
    Salt as per your taste


Method:
1.      Rinse and soak toor dhal and gram dhal (channa dhal) for 4 hours.




2.      After soaking drain the water and course grind the dhal without adding any water. You can also add green chili and ginger while grinding and just finely chop them and add.




3.      Transfer it to a wide bowl. Add in all other ingredients like chopped onion (optional), green chili, ginger, curry leaves, coriander leaves, grated coconut, asafoetida, dill leaves (sabsige soppu) and salt.




4.      Give a quick mix. Do not add any water.




5.      Now take a big lemon sized dhal and spice mixture and prepare dumplings using your palms.




6.      Arrange them on a greased idli plate.




7.      Steam them for 15 minutes. Serve tasty nuchinunde with Hasi Majjige and enjoy.
