Today december 15 is celebrated as world cupcake day. Do you ever wonder how that palm-sized, frosting-loaded sweet treat you love came from? 

In the 1700s the cupcakes were referred to as number cakes. In 1776 the first-ever cupcake recipe was invented. It was a little tiny cake that was baked in small cups.
American Cookery cookbook was the idea behind making tiny cakes written by Amelia Simmons. The first cupcake recipe was published by Eliza Leslie published her cookbook.

In 1919, Hostess presented its very first break time cake as AKA Hostess Cupcake. In the 1920s first frosting was done on the top of the cup with chocolate and vanilla frosting.then in the 1940s cakes were available with Malted icing.
At last, in 1947 DRDoc rice re-designed the cupcakes which look the same till now now. In New York City, Magnolia Bakery gained tons of publicity by having cupcakes in the year 2000.

 New York City banned Cupcakes at schools to decrease obesity rates.
 The National Cupcake Week was celebrated by preparing the world's smallest cupcake made is 1.5 centimeters tall & 3 centimeters wide.  
 In 2005 the world's first Sprinkles Cupcakes was opened and produced around 25,000 cupcakes per day.
