The fishermen who caught it did not know that it was a mermaid, but they took it to Osaka and sold it as a normal fish. "My ancestors bought it and kept it as a family treasure." It is not clear how or when this mummy came to Asakuchi's Enjuin temple, but if the priest is to be believed, it was kept here about 40 years ago to be shown to the public.

So far no such confirmation has been done so that it can be proved that this mummy really belongs to a mermaid and eating it makes a person immortal.
