The increasing threat of ozone in India...?

Ozone pollution is becoming a major problem in big cities of India. Among the 10 big cities, Delhi-NCR has the highest ground-level ozone pollution. This study has been done by the Center for Science and Environment (CSE). In the 6 months from january to July, there were 176 days in Delhi-NCR when the ozone level was very high. After this comes mumbai and Pune, where the ozone level was very high for 138 days. In Jaipur, this number was 126 days. These figures are from the last five years (2020 to 2024), which have been taken from official pollution measuring stations.

In this study, data from january to July was seenMore attention was given to the summer months from april to July. During this, data was taken from the cities of Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi-NCR, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, mumbai and Pune.

Data from a total of 224 official pollution measuring stations in these 10 cities has been analysed. air pollution data is collected from these stations every 15 minutes and stored in a central database.

What is ozone?
Ozone is a very harmful gas that causes breathing problems. This gas is especially dangerous for children, the elderly and people already suffering from respiratory diseases. This gas damages the lungs, increases asthma attacks and can lead to hospitalization. Ozone gas is not released directly, but is formed due to pollution from vehicles, power plants, factories, etc. Therefore, the amount of ozone is observed in one hour or eight hours a day. But other types of pollution, such as small particles, are observed for the entire 24 hours. Ozone pollution also spreads from one city to another.
