Are indian Muslims forced to live in a separate neighbourhood?
India is considered a secular country. india has the third largest Muslim population in the world, but residential segregation on religious grounds has long been a matter of concern here. Many people talk of large-scale 'ghettoisation' of the Muslim community. Ghettoisation means an area or settlement where mainly people of the same community live.
Recently, Justice v Srisananda of the karnataka High court referred to a Muslim-dominated area of Bengaluru as 'Mini Pakistan'. The supreme court has taken suo motu cognizance of Justice C Srisananda's controversial statement and has sought a response.
Actually, the Justice of the karnataka High court was hearing a case related to violation of traffic rules. During this, he said, "Go towards mysore Road flyover, there are 10 people in every auto rickshaw. The area from Mysore Road flyover market to Goripalya is in Pakistan, not in India. This is the reality. No matter how strict officers you send there, they will be beaten up. This is not shown on any channel."
This comment of the karnataka High court judge has created a controversy. In this special story, let us try to understand ghettoisation and the situation of Muslims. Along with this, we will also know whether Muslims are really forced to live in isolation?
Status of Muslims in India
The data of the recently conducted National Family health Survey (NFHS) 2019-21 shows that the condition of Muslims in india is much worse than the average Indian. The average education level for Muslims is lower than that of other communities. For example, the average education of the male head of the Muslim household is about two years less.
The infant mortality rate of Muslims in urban areas is about 5 percent higher than the average of the entire urban population. This means that the mortality rate of Muslim children is higher. The rate of malnutrition among children under five years of age is also higher among Muslims. This means that the children of this community are not getting adequate nutrition, which has a bad effect on their health.
