Are greenhouse gases a real reason for increasing heat?

Greenhouse gas emissions in india are increasing steadily every year. Greenhouse gases are measured in carbon dioxide-equivalent (Mt CO2eq/yr). It tells how much greenhouse gas each country generates. According to the 2024 report of the Joint Research Center (JRC) of the european Commission, greenhouse gas emissions in india increased from 3270.4 Mt CO2eq/yr in 2014 to 4133.6 Mt CO2eq/yr in 2023.

This increase has seen a sharp increase of 7.2% in 2021, 5.9% in 2022 and 6% in 2023. This means that greenhouse gas emissions in india are continuously increasing rapidly, which is a matter of concern for the environment and climate. The power industry, industrial combustion and transport sectors are mainly responsible for the increasing greenhouse gas emissions in India. In 2023, these sectors accounted for 46.6 per cent, 20.9 per cent and 11.5 per cent of total emissions respectively.

The european Commission's JRC 2024 report shows that the main reason for the increase in GHG emissions in india between 1990 and 2023 is the rapid increase in CO2 emissions from the power industry, industrial processes and transport. In 2023, these emissions have increased six and five times compared to 1990 respectively.

What is greenhouse gas?

The main reason for the ever-increasing heat in india is the increasing emission of greenhouse gases. To understand this, we first need to know what greenhouse gases are and how they work. Greenhouse gases are gases in the Earth's atmosphere that trap heat. During the day, sunlight passes through the atmosphere and heats the Earth's surface. At night, when the Earth's surface cools, it releases the heat back into the air. But greenhouse gases present in the atmosphere trap some of the heat. This is why the Earth's average temperature remains around 14 degrees Celsius (57 degrees Fahrenheit).

Greenhouse gases act like the gases that keep the glass walls of a greenhouse in place. That's why they are called greenhouse gases. If there was no effect of greenhouse gases, the Earth's temperature would drop to -18 degrees Celsius (-0.4 degrees Fahrenheit). But humans are changing the Earth's greenhouse effect, causing greenhouse gas emissions to increase rapidly. Scientists believe that greenhouse gases are the cause of heat and climate change around the world.
