What percentage of children go to college?

The government wants 50% of children to go to college by the year 2035, while right now this figure is less than 30%. For this, the government is working on opening new colleges as well as making the old colleges bigger and better. At the same time, this year the rate of filling seats in schools and colleges can reach 86-87%, which was 85% last year. Meaningmore children will take admission than before.

In 2021, the National Council of Applied Economic Research has shown that most parents believe that only good education can build the future of children, but they are finding it difficult to bear the cost of education. About 60% of parents said that private schools are charging a lot of money in the name of fees, while the education is not that good.

Cost of education: more in some places, less in others!

The cost of education is not the same everywhere. In rich states like Maharashtra, karnataka and tamil Nadu, the fees are increasing very fast. In poorer states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha, the fees are not increasing as fast.

In Maharashtra, especially in cities like mumbai and Pune, the fees for engineering courses have increased by 70% in the last 10 years. This is because the state government is promoting private colleges. Fees have also increased significantly in Karnataka. According to a 2019 report, the fees for professional courses in private colleges have increased by 60% in the last 10 years.
