Is single-use plastic banned in India?
Union Environment minister Bhupendra Yadav, in a reply given in Parliament, said that the government of india had notified the Plastic Waste Management Amendment Rules 2021 on 12 august 2021. Under this, a ban has been imposed on those single-use plastic products from July 1, 2022, which are used very little and which quickly become garbage. So that plastic waste is reduced and the environment remains clean.
Plastic is difficult to recycle because new plastic and chemicals have to be added to it. Then only a few things can be made from recycled plastic.
Plastic pollution has become a big problem. It is polluting our soil, water and air. This is also harming animals. Burning plastic releases harmful gases which are also dangerous for our health. For all these reasons, the government has banned single-use plastic.
Plastic bags also banned! From 31 december 2022, it is prohibited to manufacture, bring, keep, sell and use plastic bags thinner than 120 microns. From 30 september 2021, non-woven plastic carry bags weighing less than 60 grams per square meter have also been banned. Plastic pouches of gutkha, tobacco and pan masala have been completely banned. Many states have also banned plastic bags and some single-use plastic items. The ban is not uniformly enforced nationally, and some outlets continue to sell these items.
