The suicide rate of students is higher than that of farmers?

India is a country where youth power has a huge contribution, and the students here are considered the hope of the future and an important part of the construction of the society. However, to fulfill this hope, it is necessary that adequate investment is made in the field of education and health, so that the children of the country can be educated properly and can contribute to the society. However, when we look at the real state of the education and health sectors of india, the picture that emerges can be worrying for any country.

The students of our country are becoming victims of suicide today, and this situation has become so serious that according to the data of the central government agency National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), the suicide rate of students in the year 2024 has become more than that of farmers. This report states that cases of suicide in india are increasing at the rate of 2% every year. Whereas, the rate of suicide cases among students has increased by 4% annually.

This figure of increased student suicide in the country is very worrying for any society. On the other hand, the condition of health services is also very bad. The lack of beds, doctors and nurses in government hospitals, and lack of access to health services shows that important areas like education and health are not getting proper attention and resources by the government or society.

Frightening figures of student suicides

In the year 2021, 13,089 students committed suicide. In comparison, 13,044 cases of student suicide were reported in 2022. There was a nominal decrease in 2022 as compared to 2021.

In the year 2022, there was an increase of 4% in cases of suicide as compared to the year 2021. In 2021, 1.64 lakh people committed suicide, while in 2022, more than 1.70 lakh people committed suicide.

Of all the people who committed suicide in the country in 2022, 7.6% were students. Whereas, the number of people associated with agriculture was 6.6%. That is, more students are committing suicide than people associated with agriculture.
