Work or rest: Are we using time properly?
The National Statistical office (NSO) has released the 'Time Use survey 2024' about how women and men spend their time in India. The first survey in india was conducted by the National Statistical office (NSO) during January to december 2019.
According to the survey, now more women are doing jobs or business than before. Now men are also taking more part in the work of taking care of the house and family. Both men and women are now taking time for themselves apart from work, such as traveling, watching movies, playing sports, etc.
This survey shows that the roles of women and men are changing in India. women are no longer confined to the four walls of the house, but they are working outside and becoming financially self-reliant. Men are also now understanding the responsibilities of the home and family and are supporting women in fulfilling them. This is a good thing, because it improves the mental and physical health of people.
How much has the participation of women increased?
The results of the Time Use survey 2024 show that women's participation in the employment sector is increasing in India. In 2024, 25% of women aged 15 to 59 did jobs or employment-related work, whereas in 2019 this figure was only 21.8%. women are now spending less time in household chores than before, which shows that they are doing more and more jobs. Urban women have progressed more in employment than rural women. This may be due to more jobs in cities, better education and more support.
