Reserve bank gave a big update regarding 2000 rupees note!

Now only such notes worth Rs 6,471 crore are with the public. RBI had announced the withdrawal of 2000 rupees bank note from circulation on May 19, 2023. At that time the total value of these notes in circulation was Rs 3.56 lakh crore. As of february 28, 2025, this figure has come down sharply to Rs 6,471 crore.

Process to deposit 2000 rupees notes

Till october 7, 2023, you could go to the bank branch and exchange or deposit 2,000 rupees notes, but now whoever has this note can deposit it in 19-issue offices of the Reserve Bank. RBI's issue offices are accepting 2000 rupees notes from individuals and institutions for depositing in their bank accounts from october 9, 2023. To make this process more easy for the people of the country, the facility of sending 2000 rupees notes to these offices of the Reserve bank through indian Post from any post office has also been started, which will later be deposited in their accounts.

Why are 2000 notes being withdrawn?

The Reserve bank said that despite being withdrawn from circulation, 2,000 rupees bank notes will remain legal tender.
