Controversy over user charge in Municipal Corporation deepens…
Political turmoil has intensified over the 'user charge' imposed in the name of garbage collection in delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD). bharatiya janata party (BJP) has launched a scathing attack on aam aadmi party (AAP), accusing it of anti-people policies. bjp has accused AAP and the Mayor of delhi Municipal Corporation of having a secret agreement on this issue, and has also demanded the immediate resignation of the Mayor.
delhi bjp spokesperson praveen Shankar Kapoor targeted AAP and said that in the last two and a half years, AAP's chaotic functioning has ruined the corporation. Maintenance of cleanliness, hospitals, schools, parks and roads has come to a standstill. He said that due to non-formation of a permanent committee, all the expenses of the corporation are unconstitutional and development work is stalled.
'AAP's majority in the corporation is now a guest for a few days only'
Describing the user charge as illegal, Kapoor said that it is not included in the Corporation Act. He accused the Mayor and the Municipal Commissioner of collusion, because the Mayor is neither instructing the Municipal Commissioner to withdraw the user charge nor is he calling a meeting of the Municipal house to get the proposal passed to cancel it.
Shankar Kapoor termed the Mayor's recent protest as a 'drama' and claimed that AAP has lost its majority in the corporation and its power is now a guest for a few days only.
Strong protest by bjp councillors
bjp councillors protested outside the Mayor's office under the leadership of leader of Opposition Sardar raja Iqbal Singh and Deputy leader of Opposition jai Bhagwan Yadav. Raising slogans of 'Mayor Hai-Hai' and 'AAP Hai-Hai', the councillors called AAP anti-people. Sardar raja Iqbal Singh said that AAP has ruined the corporation. There are heaps of garbage on the roads, the sanitation system has collapsed, yet AAP is collecting user charge along with property tax.
Demanded resignation from mayor on moral grounds
Singh revealed that when AAP was in power, rules were made to levy user charges, while bjp opposed it and did not allow it to be implemented while in power. But as soon as AAP came to power, it not only implemented user charges, but also increased the rates of health trade license, general trade license and property tax. He demanded resignation from the mayor on moral grounds.
