When PS2 launched, it got popular! However, there was a significant change to the ending that some readers of the novel will undoubtedly discuss. Let's talk about that! First and foremost, keep in mind that we'll be concentrating more on the novels than on actual historical events. Let's begin with what occurs in the ponniyin selvan 2 movie's climax:

After defeating the Rashtrakuta army, Arulmozhi Varman (also known as Ponniyin Selvan) was granted the throne by the Chola Kingdom. He gave up his claim and delivered the Crown to his Uncle Madhuranthakan while the Coronation ritual was taking place.  Sundara Chola, who was the reigning emperor at the time, was related to Madhuranthakan. He was plotting with other ministers to succeed to the throne, as we witnessed in the first movie.

In the second half, he even allied himself with the Rashtrakutas, the Cholas' adversaries, but afterward broke away and reconnected with his family. He participated in the final conflict alongside his nephew Arulmozhi. You should watch the movie to properly comprehend the ending, of course, as this is only a brief explanation. The PS2 was made available in india on april 28, 2023, and it will soon be available on Prime Video's OTT service.

Returning to the conclusion, it was altered from the books. Madhuranthakan was the succeeding king, but the historical records actually speak of someone else. In order to demonstrate how it differs from the literature, they revealed the truth in the conclusion. Let's investigate.

Has Ponniyin Selvan's Novel been Altered and Changed in the Movie?

History's ponniyin selvan was a legitimate monarch. Arulmozhi Varman, his real name, was given the title "Raja raja Chola I" afterward. Aditya, his brother, was also mysteriously murdered. Therefore, this movie is based on both novels and a portion of real history.

The novels were released in 1955, and at about this time, a fresh tale and a lot of fiction were added. In the world of film, this genre is known as historic fiction. Therefore, the ponniyin selvan novels are fictional epics rather than accurate depictions. Senthan Amuthan was revealed to be Arulmozhi Varman's actual uncle in Ponniyin Selvan's novels, and he received the throne of the Chola Kingdom. However, Madhuranthakan was the one who was crowned in the movies.

Let's get into more detail. At first, it was believed that Madhuranthankan was Sembiyan Devi's child. He was Sundara Chola's cousin. And he intended to reclaim his rights for himself, exactly like in the film. The ponniyin selvan character map can be found here once more.

If you don’t remember, Senthan was the shiv bhakt who Vandiya devan met in Thanjvur and was in love with Poongulzhali.

But Sembiyan Devi revealed a significant historical twist in "The Pinnacle of Sacrifice," the fifth book of Ponniyin Selvan's novel. Senthan Amuthan was born to her, but he was stillborn. She became alarmed and made the decision to take action.

She met her twin-mother Mandakini Devi at this time. Actually, Vaani, the sister of Mandakini, was Sembiyan Devi's maid. Nandini Devi was one of the twins, and Madhuranthakan was the other.

She switched the boys with her in the end. Thus, the son of Mandakini was actually raised by Sembiyan Devi. Senthan was still living when the maid arrived to bury him. She also raised her as a result. As depicted in the movie, Mandakini Devi fled the scene, and Nandini was delivered to a priest.

When all the secrets were revealed in the books, Madhuranthakan left the palace and sided with the Pandya plotters. Senthan Amuthan, in the meantime, was handed the Crown and accepted by his actual mother Sembiyan Devi. However, it's important to keep in mind that some of the characters in the novels, such as Senthan Amuthan and Nandini Devi, were not historical figures. They were invented by author kalki to add interest to the situation.

You now know what happened in the ponniyin selvan 2 movie's ending and how the original kalki novels were modified.
