We have entered the month of May after an intriguing month for telugu cinema, April. Both Ugram and Ramabanam, directed by Gopichand, and allari Naresh's Ugram were released on May 5 to kick off the month. Ramabanam has had a dismal opening, as evidenced by the film's box office collections, but Ugram received generally positive reviews and buzz after its release. Let's now examine the box office earnings for both Ugram and Ramabanam.

Ugram had a disappointing first day of sales. For the movie to be a safe bet, the weekend box office needs to increase significantly. The weekend of this saturday and sunday will be key for the movie. Ugram's opening day earnings are in the neighbourhood of 80 Lakhs, barely making a dent in the box office. When you consider that Ugram's theatre business is estimated to be worth 5 crores, this is a modest number.

Ramabanam, though, is off to an even worse start. Ramabanam's first day share earnings are predicted to be less than 1.5 crores. In light of the movie's theatrical commerce, this is a terrible beginning. The value of the theatrical rights is 15 crores. The movie will need a significant boost during the weekend, which again doesn't seem possible. Ramabanam may turn out to be another costly loss-making endeavour for Gopichand due to the high stakes involved.
