Public health officials have urged people in hyderabad and the surrounding districts to concentrate on preventive measures, especially do their best to avoid getting bit by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the vector that transmits the dengue virus through its bite. Healthcare providers at State-run and private healthcare establishments have reported an increase in dengue cases. Doctors at private healthcare institutions claim that since august, dengue cases in hyderabad have multiplied tenfold. Estimates indicated that dengue cases surged from a monthly average of 150 to 160 cases to approximately 1200 cases in august and September, however there is no official confirmation of this.

In all, telangana recorded about 3,000 positive cases up to September, of which nearly half are from Hyderabad. "Resisting mosquito bites is the only strategy to prevent having dengue. Treatment for dengue symptoms includes drinking lots of fluids, ORS, coconut water, etc., I would counsel patients. Avoid self-medication and seek prompt medical attention, suggested Dr. K Shankar, Superintendent of Fever Hospitals.

Patients should get plenty of rest, according to a statement from senior paediatrician Dr. K. K. Durga prasad of Ankura Hospital for women and Children. when he acknowledged that one of the best ways to recover from any illness is to rest, he also noted that children may desire to continue being active when ill. According to Dr. Shankar, parents should exercise caution if a kid contracts dengue by limiting any physically demanding activities for the child to ensure adequate rest and a chance for their body to recover.
