According to Comscore estimates issued on Sunday, lokesh Kanagaraj's Tamil-language film "Leo: Bloody Sweet," starring Vijay, opened the most recent weekend at the global box office in third place with $31.2 million worldwide.

"Killers of the Flower Moon," directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, and Lily Gladstone, took home the top prize of $44 million for the weekend. "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour" came in second with $41.5 million. On the other hand, "Leo" made $48.5 million (after four days) in the global total among new releases, while "Killers of the Flower Moon" brought in $44 million.

"Leo," which debuted on october 19, is a tribute to David Cronenberg's 2005 film "A history of Violence." The action-thriller centers on Vijay, the placid café proprietor, who is inspired to revisit his violent past. In addition, Mysskin, Mansoor ali Khan, George Maryan, priya Anand, Mathew Thomas, Madonna Sebastian, arjun Sarja, Sanjay Dutt, and trisha krishnan are in the cast. S.S. Lalit Kumar and jagadish Palanisamy are producing the movie for Seven Screen Studio.

Prathyangira Cinemas released "Leo" in the United States, where it made $2.1 million in its first weekend of distribution. Ahimsa Entertainment published it in the UK and Ireland, making £1.07 million ($1.3 million) in its first three days of sales. "Leo" is the most recent installment of Kanagaraj's lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), which also includes the 1986 film "Vikram." The LCU started with "Kaithi" in 2019 and continued with "Vikram" in 2022. "Leo" features characters from "Kaithi" and the 2022 film "Vikram."

Vijay, who is referred to as "Thalapathy" (commander), is collaborating with kanagaraj for the second time. They have previously worked together on the $36 million-grossing film "Master" from 2021. Following that, Vijay starred in two successful albums, "Beast" (2022) and "Varisu" (2023), both of which had hits akin to "Master."
