A famous private hospital informed that Vijayakanth was being treated with the help of artificial respiration a few weeks ago. After two days he made a full recovery and was discharged from the hospital. Subsequently, his wife Premalatha Vijayakanth was appointed as the general secretary of the DMDK. In such a situation, Vijayakanth was again admitted to a private hospital last evening. He will return home after the usual treatment in a couple of days, but while the party office had issued a statement, the official announcement was made that the captain passed away within a few hours of the announcement that the captain was infected with the coronavirus this morning.

Vijayakanth's body is now kept at his Saligramam home for last rites. His body is then taken to his party office in Koyambedu for public tributes. Meanwhile, there are reports that Captain Vijayakanth's body will be cremated at Andal Alaghar College. tamil Nadu chief minister MK stalin has paid homage to Vijayakanth's body.
