Controversy has erupted after the names of indira gandhi and nargis Dutt were removed from the National Film Awards.
The National Award is considered the highest film award in India. This award given by the central government is given every year to those who have given dramatic works on screen. Accordingly, the National Awards for films released in 2022 will be given this year. The submission of films was completed on january 30.
A committee has been set up by the Central Information and Broadcasting Department to streamline the national awards and prize money given under various categories. As per the recommendations of the committee, some changes have been made in the 70th National Film Awards to be held this year.
Accordingly, the 'Indira gandhi Award for Best Debut Director', which was given in the name of former indian Prime minister indira gandhi, has now been renamed as 'Best Debut Film director Award'. While the prize money for this award was shared between the producer and the director earlier, now it is going to be given only to the director.
Similarly, the 'Nargis Dutt Award for Best Film on National Integration' which was given in the name of legendary actress nargis Dutt has now been changed to 'Best Film Promoting National Social and Environmental Values'. Also, the prize money for Dada Saheb Phalke Award has been increased from Rs.10 lakh to Rs.15 lakh.
The prize money for Swarn Kamal Award for Best Children's Film has been increased to Rs.3 lakh and the prize money for Rajat Kamal Award has been increased to Rs.2 lakh. Similarly, the prize money for the Best Sound Design Award has been increased from Rs.50 thousand to Rs.2 lakh.
