This film made for 8 crores broke the record of 'Sholay'!!!
Vijay Thalapathy starrer film 'Ghilli' was released for the first time in the year 2004. Now after 20 years it has been released again in theaters. The film is getting very good response from the audience and hence it is earning well at the domestic box office. In the re-release collection, the film is breaking the box office records of films like 'Sholay' and 'Titanic'.
'Ghilli' was a remake of the 2003 telugu hit 'Okkadu'. On april 20, 2024, when 'Ghilli' completed 20 years, the makers re-released it in select theaters in tamil Nadu and some other places. After re-release, the film got good response at the box office. According to the report of SACNILC, the film has done a business of around Rs 20 crore in 9 days.
Records of 'Sholay' and 'Titanic' broken,
'Ghilli' has defeated films like 'Sholay' and 'Titanic' in re-release collection. Earlier in the year 2013, 'Sholay' was released again in theaters which did a business of Rs 13 crore. This was the highest grossing indian film in re-release. Apart from this, 'Titanic' also earned Rs 18.5 crore in re-release.
Fourth highest grossing tamil film of the year
With a collection of around Rs 20 crore at the domestic box office, 'Ghilli' has become the fourth highest grossing tamil film of the year 2024. Before this, 'Ayalan', 'Captain Miller' and 'Lal Salaam' remained on the top. Let us tell you that 'Ghilli' has so far earned Rs 40 crore worldwide in its re-release.
