Shahrukh Khan revealed this during the masterclass at the Locarno Film Festival. He said that his production company Red Chillies Entertainment had bought the rights of Devdas even before its screening at the event. On his experience related to this film, Shahrukh said, "This is one of the best experiences of my life. The experience of being associated with it is so special for me that we bought back the rights to this film as a production company. I am very proud that now it is with our company."

Worked in 'Devdas' for his mother

The actor said that he found 'Devdas' an old concept because there were already 18 versions of it. However, then-director sanjay leela bhansali wanted to make it with Shahrukh only. The actor said during this time that this film went through serious financial crisis. Apart from this, he said that his mother liked Devdas very much, and he acted in this film for his mother. Apart from Shahrukh, aishwarya Rai Bachchan, madhuri Dixit, Jackie Shroff, etc. were seen in the film. This film was based on the novel of the same name published in 1917 by the famous writer Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay.
