Most Watched indian Film In This OTT Giant

Vijay Sethupathi’s film Maharaja, directed by Nithilan Swaminathan, released in theatres in June. The film was critically acclaimed for its suspenseful story, that is full of twists and turns; and also for the performances of vijay sethupathi and Anurag Kashyap. It grossed more than Rs 100 crore worldwide, while being made on a meagre budget of Rs 20 crore. After it started streaming on Netflix from July 12, the film has received a lot of love and appreciation from viewers from outside the tamil speaking diaspora as well. Maharaja released on Netflix in tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, kannada as well as Hindi.

Now, the film has added yet another feather on its cap as it has bagged the title of the most watched film on Netflix this year. Netflix india recently released a list of the most watched movies on the platform and revealed that Maharaja has garnered a staggering 18.6 million views, surpassing the viewership of other major releases like Crew, starring kareena kapoor Khan, Tabu, and Kriti Sanon, which collected 17.9 million views.The movie’s success on Netflix underscores its wide-reaching appeal, attracting viewers from beyond the Tamil-speaking audience. Maharaja has regularly featured in Netflix’s trending list, indicating its strong popularity across different groups.Maharaja explores the journey of a barber, portrayed by Vijay Sethupathi, who seeks revenge after his home is burglarised. The plot thickens when the barber reports the theft of ‘Lakshmi’ to the police, leaving them puzzled as to whether ‘Lakshmi’ is a person or an object. This intriguing storyline, combined with Sethupathi’s powerful performance, has struck a chord with audiences.

The film also features notable actors such as Anurag Kashyap, mamta mohandas, divya Bharathi, Abhirami, and Singampuli, all of whom have earned widespread acclaim for their performances.
