Vijay Sethupathi’s film Maharaja, directed by Nithilan Swaminathan, released in theatres in June. Netflix india recently released a list of the most watched movies on the platform and revealed that Maharaja has garnered a staggering 18.6 million views, surpassing the viewership of other major releases like Crew, starring kareena kapoor Khan, Tabu, and Kriti Sanon, which collected 17.9 million views.The movie’s success on Netflix underscores its wide-reaching appeal, attracting viewers from beyond the Tamil-speaking audience. Maharaja has regularly featured in Netflix’s trending list, indicating its strong popularity across different groups.Maharaja explores the journey of a barber, portrayed by Vijay Sethupathi, who seeks revenge after his home is burglarised. The plot thickens when the barber reports the theft of ‘Lakshmi’ to the police, leaving them puzzled as to whether ‘Lakshmi’ is a person or an object. This intriguing storyline, combined with Sethupathi’s powerful performance, has struck a chord with audiences.
