This year, tollywood is going through a terrible period; thus far, just a few films have found success. The next big release is Nani's Saripodhaa Sanivaaram, which he has been marketing in chennai and is also planning to do in malayalam and Hindi. Although Nani's attempts to connect with non-Telugu speaking audiences are admirable, it remains to be seen if a movie such as Saripodhaa Sanivaaram would captivate such viewers.

The conventional wisdom holds that in order to attract non-Telugu audiences, a movie needs to have a unique scale, an epic experience, or some kind of shock value. But nani seems to hold a different belief. Since Dasara, he has been using this tactic to get to know audiences who are not telugu speakers. We won't know the outcome right away because it's a lengthy procedure, but for the time being, nani deserves praise for his efforts.

This August, the box office in tollywood has remained relatively stable, with few films managing to make a profit at the ticket booths. The mainstream movies Mr. Bachchan and Double Ismart had trouble drawing large crowds of people to the cinema. Now that nani is arriving on this month's 29th together with Saripodha Sanivaaram, the ball is in his court. With this movie, nani seems to be making a comeback to the mainstream genre following Dasara.
