Rajinikanth, who was working as a bus conductor in Bengaluru, made his debut in cinema with the film apoorva Raagangal directed by K. Balachander. He was addicted to alcohol in his early days. Apart from that, Rajini had a lot of cigarette habits. Rajinikanth has told in an old interview why he gave up alcohol. He said: “When I acted in the film apoorva Ragangal, I struggled to act. I did as he said and after that acting was very easy. Balachander's first disciple was Nagesh.
After apoorva Raagangal, I acted in Tappu Thaalangal directed by Balachander. The film was shot in tamil and kannada by Balachander. The shooting took place in Bangalore. At that time, nagesh was ill and admitted to the hospital. One day during the shooting of Tappu Thaalangal, they asked me to back up at 8 o'clock. After that, I went and showered and had some wine. At 10 pm balachander sir's assistant director called me and asked me to come to the shooting spot immediately. Sir said that only one scene was missed and he would call to film it. I'm blown away. After that, I showered, brushed, sprayed, and put on makeup. I kept thinking that balachander should not come near. He knew the truth about it. Smell found. Immediately, I also went to the room and sat. He wasted his life drinking alcohol. He said that he would hit him with his slippers when he found out that the shooting was coming.
