Prithviraj Comments on S*l Abuse Issues in malayalam Film Industry

Actor prithviraj Sukumaran, who was last seen in The Goat Life, has responded to the recent hema Committee report addressing issues of sexual harassment, inadequate facilities, gender bias, and pay disparities in the malayalam film industry. Unlike fellow veterans mohanlal and Mammootty, who have remained silent on the matter and the sexual assault allegations involving various actors and filmmakers, prithviraj has been vocal.

Prithviraj revealed that he was among the first to provide a statement to the Justice hema Committee. He expressed his hope that appropriate actions will be taken against those found guilty. He also criticized the Association of malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) for its inadequate handling of complaints from survivors, citing a specific instance involving his co-star sridevika from Avan Chandiyude Makan, who had lodged a complaint against director Thulasidas. prithviraj emphasized that AMMA needs to take stronger actions.

Regarding the broader impact on the industry, prithviraj underscored the importance of a robust response. He noted that just because he has not personally encountered issues from powerful groups does not mean they do not exist. He stressed that if such groups are found to exist, they should be dismantled, and the grievances of those affected must be addressed.

In response to the hema Committee's findings, the malayalam film industry has seen significant developments. Filmmaker Ranjith resigned from his position as chairman of the kerala Chalachitra Academy following accusations of misconduct by bengali actress Sreelekha Mitra. Additionally, veteran actor Siddique, also the general secretary of AMMA, resigned amid allegations of sexual abuse and has filed a police complaint against actress Revathy Sampath, who accused him of assault.

The Association of malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) has responded to the report by acknowledging it but denied the existence of powerful groups and dismissed the allegations of casting couch practices.
