Javed Akhtar: Did Madhuri-Sridevi get any good roles in their entire career? Why did javed akhtar ask this question?

Famous poet, lyricist, and screenwriter javed akhtar is known for his outspoken statements. He is also seen sharing his views on various topics of the industry including society. Recently, the famous screenwriter has described madhuri dixit and the late sridevi as talented as veteran actresses nargis or Nutan and questioned whether they got any good roles in their entire careers.

Recently, in an interview with NDTV, the veteran lyricist and screenwriter explained how the changing image of a hero has affected storytelling on the big screen. He also said that actresses like Madhuri Dixit and sridevi did not get as powerful roles as late veteran actresses meena Kumari or Nargis.

Javed Akhtar is busy promoting his new documentary series 'Angry Young Men'. Recently he said, "Look at these girls, madhuri and Sridevi. They were no less talented than meena Kumari, nargis, and Madhubala. Sorry. They were as talented as these great actresses. But did they get good roles in their entire career? The larger-than-life meena Kumari had Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam (1962) and Pakeezah (1972). nargis had Mother india (1957). Nutan had Bandini (1963) and Sujata (1959)."

Javed Akhtar spoke about how during the golden age of hindi cinema, female characters stood shoulder to shoulder with their male co-stars and played a multi-layered role, which was not given to female actors in the years to come.

Javed Akhtar said, "Which memorable role did you give to sridevi or Madhuri? Was it not because you had some animosity towards them? You did not have great roles. And you did not have great roles because when meena Kumari was there, there was the quality of 'I will remain silent'... now there is no quality of 'I will remain silent'. So what is the quality then? people are not able to understand. When a youth stood up against the government in the 70s, that was a quality. Is going to jail a quality today? You don't know, you will find such an attitude suicidal."
