Filmmaker-Lyricist Sreekumaran Thampi Honored with MACTA legend of Honour Award

Sreekumaran Thampi, the acclaimed malayalam lyricist, film producer, and director, was awarded the prestigious MACTA legend of Honour Award by the malayalam Cine Technician Association (MACTA). The award was presented by malayalam director Joshi and includes a cash prize of one lakh rupees, a sculpture created by Kanai Kunhiraman, and a citation. The ceremony was held as part of MACTA’s 30th-anniversary celebrations in Kochi.

The event, which began on september 8 at 9:30 am, featured the flag hoisting by director Joshi. FEFKA General Secretary B Unnikrishnan inaugurated the festivities by lighting the ceremonial lamp. The ceremony was attended by notable figures including director Joshi, actor Lal, MACTA Chairman McCartin, MACTA General Secretary M Padmakumar, Treasurer Collins Leaphill, and directors Jose Thomas, Bhagyalakshmi, and aparna Balamurali.

The celebration included an introductory speech by B Unnikrishnan, followed by addresses from sathyan Anthikad and Lal. A symposium on "Changing Film Enjoyment" featured discussions with screenwriters and actors such as Sanjay Bobby, vishnu Unnikrishnan, Bipin George, Sohan Seenulal, father Anil Philip, Santhosh Verma, Bhagyalakshmi, aparna Balamurali, actor Kailash, and actor Ravindran, moderated by professor Aju K Narayanan.

The MACTA family reunion took place in the afternoon, showcasing artistic performances and competitions among members. Sreekumaran Thampi was honored on the main stage of the town hall in the evening. The event also paid tribute to MACTA’s founding members including Joshi, Kalur Dennis, SN Swami, Shibu Chakraborty, gayatri Ashok, rajeev Nath, Paul Babu, Rafi, and McCartin.

The evening featured a musical program with performances by singers Unni Menon, sudeep Kumar, pradeep Somasundaram, Devanand, Nikhil K Menon, aparna Rajeev, and 20 other playback singers, presenting around 50 film songs from early malayalam cinema. The event also included dance performances by Swasika and Manikuttan, stand-up comedy, and comedy skits by MACTA members. Additionally, a documentary titled Makta Harishivanhiin and a short film about Sreekumaran Thampi were screened.
