Before mahesh babu, namrata shirodkar Was in love with deepak Shetty
namrata shirodkar, now widely recognized as telugu superstar Mahesh Babu’s wife, had a significant relationship with restaurateur deepak Shetty before her marriage. The couple dated for nearly nine years and reportedly lived together. Tragically, deepak passed away in 2008.
In a Rediff AMA during the 90s, a fan inquired if she would marry Deepak. namrata responded, “Surely, soon will I marry Deepak; we are just waiting for the right time.” However, their relationship eventually ended, and deepak lost his life in a drowning accident in goa while attempting to save another boy. That same year, namrata also faced the loss of her mother, Kunda, to cancer.
Reflecting on her past in an interview with the Times of india, namrata shared, “There was just one time when I let my personal life overshadow my professional one, and that cost me dearly. The relationship began before the Miss india contest and lasted nine years, but it wasn’t meant to be. There was a void after that, but I moved on, wishing each other well.”
She noted that while aishwarya Rai and she started their careers simultaneously, aishwarya remained focused, whereas namrata felt diverted by her personal life, which affected her ambition. “I’m not bitter about anything. My sister shilpa helped a lot. She joined the industry at 14 and understood the importance of professionalism. She encouraged me to accept that dreams and people change, but work remains fulfilling. I’m happy now that the industry is noticing me again,” she said.
namrata married mahesh babu in 2005 after five years of dating. Following their wedding, she decided to leave acting, as Mahesh preferred a non-working wife. The couple has two children, gautam and Sitara, and namrata now lives in hyderabad with her family.
