Mithun Chakraborty to Be Honored with dadasaheb phalke Award for His Contributions to indian Cinema

Veteran actor mithun chakraborty is set to receive the prestigious dadasaheb phalke Award, a significant recognition in indian cinema. Union minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, Electronics, and IT, ashwini Vaishnaw, announced this news on social media platform X. The award is bestowed upon Chakraborty for his remarkable cinematic journey and his iconic contributions to the film industry.

In his announcement, Vaishnaw stated, “Mithun Da’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! Honoured to announce that the dadasaheb phalke Selection Jury has decided to award legendary actor, Sh. mithun chakraborty Ji for his iconic contribution to indian Cinema.” The award ceremony is scheduled to take place during the 70th National Film Awards, which will be held on october 8, 2024.

This honor comes shortly after Chakraborty received the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian award, in April. Reflecting on that moment, he expressed his surprise and gratitude, stating, “I have never asked for anything for myself from anyone in my life. When I received a call from the home Ministry informing me that I was being awarded the Padma Bhushan, I was silent for a minute because I had not expected it.”

Mithun Chakraborty made his acting debut in 1977 with the film Mrigayaa, which earned him a National Award, making him one of the few actors to achieve such recognition with his debut. He rose to fame with his 1982 hit Disco Dancer, which became a massive success not just in india but also in regions such as the Soviet Union, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Turkey, and Africa.

Over the decades, Chakraborty has starred in numerous iconic films, including Agneepath, Mujhe Insaaf Chahiye, Hum Se Hai Zamana, Pasand Apni Apni, Ghar Ek Mandir, and Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki. More recently, he was seen in the film OMG: Oh My God, showcasing his enduring presence in the industry.
