Divorce was announced by issuing a joint statement
Earlier, Saira's lawyer Vandana Shah had issued a joint statement announcing the separation of the two. It read, "After many years of marriage, Mrs. saira and her husband AR Rahman have taken the difficult decision to separate from each other. This decision has come after significant emotional stress in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has made the difficult decision to separate from each other. It is found that the tensions and difficulties have created a huge gap between them which neither party can bridge at this time.
