Kangana Ranaut slams Deepika Padukone's role in Padmaavat

According to kanganathe character was mostly shown preparing for events throughout the film, without much depth. She went on to criticize how women are often assigned one-dimensional and stereotypical roles in Bollywood.

In an interview with Ajeet Bharti, kangana ranaut said that deepika padukone was getting ready throughout the film.

“Mujhe Padmaavat bhi offer hui thi. Toh maine unse (director Sanjay Leela Bhansali) pucha tha ‘sir aapki jo script hai, wo mujhe mil jayegi to achha hai.’ Unhone kaha ‘main kabhi script nahi deta.’ Maine kaha ‘toh sir heroine ka role kya hai?’ Kehte hain ‘heroine ka role sirf itna hai wo usko pehli baar mirror mein dekhta hai, aur wo taiyaar ho rahi rehti hai.’ (I was also offered Padmaavat. I asked him, ‘Sir, can I get the script for the film?’ He said, ‘I never give the script.’ I asked, ‘Then what is the heroine’s role?’ He said, ‘The heroine’s role is just this – the hero sees her for the first time in a mirror while she’s getting ready’),she said.

Kangana then shared that after watching ‘Padmaavat’, she realized Deepika Padukone’s role was largely confined to just getting ready throughout the film.

“Aur jab maine film dekhi, wo saari film mein taiyaar hi ho rahi hoti hai. And he was right. Wo sirf taiyaar ho rahi hoti hai. Only getting ready. I don’t want to take these names and bring attention to individuals but I want to ask you which director I should work with. (And when I watched the film, she was just getting ready throughout the entire film. And he was right. She’s only getting ready. So, I don’t want to name names or bring attention to specific individuals, but I want to ask you, which director should I work with?)the actor said.

‘Padmaavat’ features deepika padukone, Ranveer Singh, shahid Kapoor, and Aditi Rao Hydari. The film is inspired by the epic poem of the same name by Malik Muhammad Jayasi.
