MAMI Select: Four filmmakers selected for 'MAMI Select', will make films with iPhone


MAMI Select: Four filmmakers have been selected in this year's MAMI Select program, who will represent different languages of indian cinema.


The mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI), which organizes the mumbai Film festival, has selected four emerging filmmakers for this year's 'MAMI Select: Filmed on iphone program. After the success of the last edition, this time the program has seen even more expansion. This program provides a platform to selected talents from different parts of the country, who showcase the diversity and culture of indian cinema.


Four filmmakers have been selected in this year's MAMI Select program, who will represent different languages of indian cinema. These include amrita Bagchi (Hindi cinema), Rohin Ravindran Nair (Malayalam cinema), chanakya Vyas (Marathi cinema), and shalini Vijaykumar (Tamil cinema). These four filmmakers will get the opportunity to shoot their films using the iphone 16 Pro Max. At the same time, they will have to use MacBook Pro for editing the film.

Special care was taken in this selection process. This process was completed in a fair and detailed manner under the leadership of the festival director Shivendra Singh Dungarpur and under the supervision of famous cinema personalities. It included mentors like National Award winner Konkana Sen Sharma, malayalam cinema veteran Lijo Jose Pelissery, director-producer vikramaditya motwane and tamil filmmaker Vetri Maaran.


The program aims to provide support to these emerging filmmakers at every stage, so that they can further expand their creative storytelling range. Apart from this, these filmmakers will also receive a significant grant and guidance from experienced mentors.


The program will conclude in april 2025 as a premiere screening event. These films will be screened in the program. After this, these films will be made available on MAMI's YouTube platform, so that they can be delivered to the audience.


Festival director Shivendra Singh Dungarpur spoke about the significance of the event, “The response to the applications was overwhelming. It was great to see the amazing stories and ideas that these young filmmakers presented, especially from different regions of India. The event is MAMI’s effort to provide emerging filmmakers a platform to showcase their art. We aim to expand MAMI Select every year so that we can create a generation of young independent filmmakers who can shape the future of indian cinema.”
