'Threats of cutting tongue are being received', SC said on the arguments of Advocate Chandrachud- he should also be like Ranveer...

Advocate Abhinav Chandrachud asked the court if he agrees that Ranveer used abusive language, but does it fall under the category of crime?

On tuesday (February 18, 2025), the supreme court granted relief to YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia and stayed his arrest and filing of a new FIR in the case. However, during the hearing, the court appeared very strict on Ranveer Allahabadia's comments. Not only this, when Ranveer's lawyer Abhinav Chandrachud tried to present his side, the court asked him in a strict tone whether he was defending such language. When the lawyer mentioned the threats, the court said that those who threaten would also be fond of being in the news like Ranveer.

According to the report, the bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice N Kotishwar was hearing the case. The court reprimanded Ranveer Allahabadia and said that the things he said during India's Got Talent show were very shameful. His parents and sisters will feel embarrassed by them. They also told Ranveer Allahabadia that he should be ashamed of the situation he has put his parents in. Ranveer Allahabadia's lawyer, while presenting his side, said that a few seconds of the clip were cut from the entire show and made public, due to which controversy has arisen again.

The judge did not agree with the argument of advocate Abhinav Chandrachud and said that he should not defend his client's statements. Justice Suryakant also asked the lawyer whether he was defending this kind of language. The lawyer told the judge that he believes that the language used by Ranveer Allahabadia in the show is indecent, but his question is whether it is a criminal offense. He asked this question citing the Apurva Arora case. The judgment of the Apurva Arora case states that indecent language will not be obscenity in itself.

Justice Suryakant did not agree with these arguments of the lawyer and said, 'If this is not obscenity, then what is obscenity? Does the judgment of the Apurva Arora case give a license to say anything?' The lawyer also said that Ranveer is getting threats that a reward will be given to the person who brings his tongue cut off. The judge said that Ranveer Allahabadia is fond of being in the news, the one who is announcing the threat, perhaps he also has such a hobby.

FIRs have been filed in several states over Ranveer Allahabadia's comments in an episode of the YouTube show 'India's Got Latent'. On february 16, Ranveer filed a petition in the supreme court and appealed to merge all the FIRs, his petition was heard on Tuesday.
