Born in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, this actor initially started a real estate business before moving to mumbai for filmmaking. Then he founded Recyclewala Films to make content-based films. His first production, Ship of Theseus (2012), was critically acclaimed and won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film. It took him 6 years to make a film that proved to be a flop at the time of release but became a hit upon re-release. This actor-producer is none other than soham Shah.
soham Shah's childhood was spent in poverty
Coming from a simple family of Sri Ganganagar, soham was the youngest of five children. Soham's childhood was spent in poverty. His father used to get a salary of Rs 3,000. He and his brother joined their father's commodity business at an early age and slowly set up the business. Before venturing into real estate with his family, Sohum spent his 20s selling mustard cake powder in Punjab. Sohum's perseverance and passion finally inspired him to pursue his dreams in the film industry.
Taking about his decade-long journey in the film industry, Sohum once expressed surprise at how far he has come. He said, "It is unreal to think about my journey as an actor in the last ten years, I was just a fan of actors and their work. I remember when manoj bajpayee sir was shooting in my hometown, I travelled 30-40 km to get a glimpse of him. I dreamt of becoming an actor then, and now, I am thankful to be a part of this industry."
soham got recognition from Tumbbad
soham Shah had to struggle a lot for success. However, in his journey, he got the full support of his wife and friend Aadesh Prasad, with whom he co-produced the critically acclaimed film 'Tumbbad'. soham Shah's passion project, Tumbbad, was a period horror drama that wasted six years of his life. The actor-producer made every effort to make this unique story, even selling his property and flat to complete the film. Released in 2018, Tumbbad proved to be a hit but it was released on only 575 screens, due to which it did not get much audience. At the same time, after 6 years i.e. in 2024, this film was re-released and it earned a lot. On re-release, this film did a business of 31.35 crores.
