Gender inequality has spread in bollywood as well. The salary given to hero and heroine is the biggest example of this. From time to time there are talks and discussions on this issue. Recently, popular actress Shefali Shah has also broken the silence on this issue. She says that this is not right at all. Merit should always be made the basis for salary.
Shefali Shah spoke on pay disparity in Bollywood. She has demanded fairness on this issue. She said that women-oriented films are now becoming very hit, but the difference in salary remains. She raised the question and said, 'This is not right'. Shefali said why are the lead actors not paid just on merit without looking at gender? She said that it is rare for the makers to offer higher salaries. Hopefully, the actors will get what they deserve.
Shefali Shah, during a recent interview, shared her views on the ongoing debate on unequal pay for male and female actors and said that there is a need for fairness in this matter. During an interview with Humans of Bombay, Shefali said that there has been a change in the film industry. Now female-led films have also got a lot of success. However, despite this progress, the difference in pay between male and female actors remains. Shefali said, 'This is not right. I can still understand that at one time films used to sell because of the hero in big films, but now it is not so. Today, many films are female-led and that have been big hits. Are they getting as much money as the hero is getting? I don't know.
Shefali said that salary should be given only on merit. Suggesting a merit-based system, he said, “What if we don't bring gender into it, and if we look at it this way - you get what you deserve. But, alas, in that case, who will decide what I deserve? How do we know? But if you are doing a lead role, you have been cast thinking that this actor can do it... so don't you think this actor deserves a little more than the rest?
