Iran's leading pop musician and singer Mehdi Yarrahi was sentenced to jail and 74 lashes for his song urging women's freedom and removing their hijab. Now the last part of the verdict given by the Revolutionary Court i.e. the sentence of 74 lashes has been completed. This information was given by his lawyer on Twitter. The singer said on wednesday that he is ready to pay the price of freedom after being flogged 74 times by the authorities.

After getting the sentence, the singer put his opinion on social media. In one of his posts, he said, "A person who is not willing to pay the price for freedom is not worthy of freedom." In fact, in august 2023, singer Yarahi was arrested because she raised her voice for women's right to remove the garment worn in public in the Islamic Republic. The authorities declared her song illegal. The name of her song was 'Rusarito', which means 'your headscarf' in Persian. Actress Taraneh Alidoosti was arrested after posing without a headscarf during the protest movement.

She said on instagram in response to the flogging: "Shame on backwardness, shame on torture, shame on violence, shame on anti-human laws, and shame and humiliation on our helplessness." Nobel Peace prize winner nargis Mohammadi said in a statement on her temporary release from prison that the flogging was retribution for Yarahi's support for women in Iran. Iran's Sharia law provides for the punishment of flogging, which is often handed down by judges, though not always enforced.
