The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has intensified the investigation into the gold smuggling case involving kannada actress Ranya Rao. Officials conducted searches in Bengaluru to gather vital information. During the investigation on tuesday (March 11, 2025), officials reached Ranya Rao's house, the karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) office, and the hotel where Ranya got married.
According to sources, the cbi was closely checking Ranya Rao's wedding footage and guest list to identify the people who attended the wedding and gave expensive gifts to Ranya. Investigators in the case were particularly focused on establishing links between Ranya and the individuals who gave her expensive gifts, to bring out links to the smuggling case.
High-profile people are also under investigation
The investigation has gone beyond Ranya Rao, with officials also investigating possible links between high-profile people and the smuggling operation. A team from the delhi cbi unit is leading the investigation, with officials also gathering detailed information on land approvals from the karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB), suggesting a wider probe into possible financial and regulatory irregularities.
Notice was also issued to protocol officers posted at the airport
The cbi has also issued notices to four protocol officers posted at the Bengaluru airport in the gold smuggling case involving kannada actress Ranya Rao. These officers, appointed by the state government, are tasked with facilitating the arrival of people, politicians, and VIPs visiting the state. The officials have been called for questioning as part of the investigation. Investigators are also probing whether there was any lapse or possible collusion in the airport's protocol system that may have helped the smuggling network.
Hearing on bail plea
Meanwhile, the hearing on Ranya Rao's bail plea is going on in the special court. Before the court proceedings, the investigating officer of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) will reach the court. The court had earlier directed the officials to file objections to the bail plea and the DRI's legal team is expected to file its objections during the hearing on wednesday (March 12, 2025).
