Raj Kapoor was not only a great filmmaker and actor but was also known as one of the best party hosts. For years, the Kapoor family hosted grand parties at rk Studios which were attended by the biggest stars of hindi cinema. Raj Kapoor's grandson ranbir kapoor shared some funny anecdotes from his grandfather's iconic holi parties and also revealed why they scared him.

Ahead of Raj Kapoor's 100th birth anniversary party in december 2024, ranbir kapoor attended the 55th international Film festival of india (IFFI) to pay a special tribute to his legendary grandfather. During a conversation with filmmaker rahul Rawail, Ranbir talked about raj Kapoor's famous holi parties at rk Studios. These celebrations were memorable events in bollywood, attended by everyone from the film industry, from superstars like amitabh bachchan and nargis to production staff and crew members.


Raj Kapoor's holi parties were known for their grand scale and unbridled fun, but Ranbir revealed that he loved them as a child but sometimes found them scary too. Talking about this, ranbir kapoor said, "I was very young, so it was a very scary atmosphere for me. Everyone was painted in black and other colors, everyone was being thrown into a truck like this. I think your memories will be better... You were right, everyone was black, blue, and yellow. It used to be a one-day celebration."

From stars to camerapersons, everyone used to celebrate Holi together

Despite his occasional dislike for these parties in his childhood, Ranbir also admitted that these holi parties also showed unity. Ranbir said that not only bollywood biggies attended this party but also other crew members including cameramen and production personnel and they all used to celebrate together. The Animal actor recalled, "What I have heard is that not only actors and actresses, but everyone from the film industry used to join this celebration. Even the camera, production people, everyone used to come together and celebrate."
